Student Move-Out in the
West End & AUC
When the semester ends around Spelman, Morehouse, and Clark Atlanta, the dorms and apartments fill up with mattresses, mini-fridges, futons, and furniture nobody wants to move twice. We clear it — a single room or a whole apartment, carried out from inside for one flat photo-quoted price starting at $111 for a mattress. Same-day during move week, usable pieces donated, and no Georgia sales tax on the service. Se habla español.
The two AUC move-out waves
Move-out around the Atlanta University Center runs on a calendar, and we plan for both halves of it. The first is late April into early May, when the dorms at Spelman, Morehouse, and Clark Atlanta empty out — a fast, high-volume week of twin mattresses, mini-fridges, storage bins, and the particleboard furniture that isn't worth hauling home. The second, and the bigger one, is late July into August, when off-campus apartment leases turn over. The blocks along Ralph David Abernathy, Lee Street, and the streets around the campuses fill with couches, futons, dressers, and desks left behind when a lease ends and the next tenant hasn't moved in yet.
Both waves get the same thing from us: a flat price quoted off a single photo, crews who carry it out from inside the room or unit, and no re-pricing at the door. The West End is a neighborhood where values are climbing fast off a long-standing legacy-Black base, and that history makes transparency matter here — so we quote the whole job up front and the number you're told is the number you pay, with nothing added at the end because Georgia doesn't tax the service.
What we haul on move-out
- Mattresses & box springs — twin, full, queen, king; the dorm twin is the most common single item.
- Mini-fridges & microwaves — the dorm-room staples, hauled and recycled or donated if they still run.
- Cheap & flat-pack furniture — futons, desks, dressers, bookshelves, particleboard pieces not worth moving.
- Whole-apartment clears — sofas, beds, tables, and everything a group of roommates leaves behind, in one truck-fill.
- The leftover pile — bags, boxes, storage bins, and general trash swept up with the furniture.
How move-out works
1 · Send a photo
Snap the room, the pile, or the whole apartment. You get an exact flat price back in seconds — no walkthrough, no waiting on a callback in the middle of finals.
2 · Pick your window
Same-day is common during the April and August waves. Booking a whole apartment? Loop in the roommates and it prices as one shared truck-fill.
3 · We carry it out
A vetted, insured crew clears the room or unit from inside — no dragging anything to the curb — and donates what's still usable.
How much does student move-out cost in the West End?
Flat and photo-quoted before anyone drives, with the labor and disposal already in the number. A single mattress or a whole apartment — you see the price before you book. For context, the average Atlanta junk-removal job runs about $225–$250 (Homeyou), and a traditional full-service hauler charges roughly $150–$600+ after an on-site estimate; the whole point of a student haul is that ours is a flat number off a photo, and cheaper when a group splits one load.
| Item / Scope | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Twin mattress (dorm) | $82 |
| Full mattress | $94 |
| Queen mattress | $103 |
| Mini-fridge | $115 |
| Futon / sofa | $111 / $126 |
| Desk / dresser | $83 / $126 |
| Dorm room / small studio (1/4 truck) | $241 |
| 1–2 bed apartment (1/2 truck) | $431 |
| Whole group / house (full truck) | $732 |
$75 minimum. Disposal included; usable pieces donated. No Georgia sales tax on the service — the quote is the total.
Split it with your roommates
The cheapest way to clear a student apartment is to do it all at once. When the whole unit — every roommate's mattress, the shared couch, the kitchen stuff, the pile by the door — goes out together, it prices as a single truck-fill (half $431, three-quarters $587, full $732) instead of a stack of separate per-item pickups. You get one flat number and split it however you want, and it comes out well under everyone booking their own haul or paying a per-item marketplace that counts each piece. Send one photo of the whole apartment and we'll price the lot.
Does the City of Atlanta pick up dorm and apartment furniture?
Not the way move-out actually happens. The City of Atlanta's Office of Solid Waste Services does bulky-item pickup by appointment (call 311), but it's scheduled to your regular collection day, single-family curbside only, and capped at 12 collections a year, with a $343.10 over-limit fee if you set out more than the allowance. A dorm, a student apartment building, or a stack of mattresses on a lease-end deadline fits none of that — the AUC dorms and the complexes around campus aren't single-family curbside, and "before my move-out inspection, this week" isn't a window the city offers. That's exactly the gap we fill: on-demand, multi-item, inside-the-unit, and flat-priced whether it's one mattress or a four-person apartment.
Where your stuff goes
A lot of what leaves a student apartment still has life in it, and Atlanta's low disposal costs mean donating it is an easy call. We route usable furniture, working mini-fridges, dressers, and clothes to the Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta — a local nonprofit that puts gently-used furniture into the homes of families getting back on their feet — plus Goodwill of North Georgia and other local charities. Mattresses and what can't be donated go to the nearest transfer station, with metal and e-waste recycled where possible. It keeps usable pieces out of the landfill and in the community, and it's all already in your flat price.
Who books a West End move-out haul
- Parents on move-out day — clearing a dorm room or an apartment in the April and August waves, often from out of town.
- Graduating students — the mattress, the futon, and the furniture that isn't going home after the walk.
- Roommate groups — a whole apartment cleared in one shared truck-fill before the lease ends.
- Off-campus landlords — a unit turned over between tenants, broom-clean for the next lease.
- Neighbors near campus — West End and nearby-apartment residents clearing furniture year-round.
What West End families say
"Moved my daughter out of her Spelman dorm the last week of April — mattress, mini-fridge, a futon and a mountain of boxes. Same-day, flat price from a photo before they arrived, and they donated the good stuff. Exactly what I needed during finals."
"Four of us split a house off Lee Street and the lease ended August 1. One truck-fill, one flat number, we split it four ways. Way cheaper than everyone booking their own. Gone in one afternoon."
"Terminé el contrato de mi apartamento en agosto y quedó lleno de muebles de estudiante. Vinieron el mismo día, precio fijo por foto, sin impuestos. Todo salió desde adentro. Muy recomendados."
Move-out questions, answered
When is AUC move-out and can you come same-day?
Two waves: dorms empty late April/early May, and off-campus apartments turn over late July/August (the bigger one). Same-day is common during move week — send a photo and we'll book the soonest window.
How much does it cost?

Can roommates split one pickup?
Yes — the whole apartment goes out as a single truck-fill (half $431, three-quarters $587, full $732) and you split that one flat number. It's the cheapest way to do it.
Do you serve Spelman, Morehouse, and Clark Atlanta?
Yes — the whole AUC and the apartments around it. We carry everything out from inside the room or unit; you don't touch the curb.
Where does the furniture go?
Usable pieces to the Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta, Goodwill of North Georgia, or a local charity; mattresses and the rest to the nearest transfer station, with metal and e-waste recycled.
